DAy 6 - Annika

well I had pineapple, noodles, garlic crostinis and a meat pie.. but most if not all of that came out the same way a bit later.
later I had some french fries and meatballs I made. And some chocolate (as a cure)..

last night i danced for about 3-4 hours.. It was such a crazy night. I was home at 5.30am and woke up again just after 8am.. I believe the lack of sleep made me feel worse than I would have. I managed to sleep an hour in the afternoon and felt much better after..

Day 6-Sheena

Breakfast-3 pieces of turkey sausage, 2 eggs, 1 piece of toast, a glass of milk and 3 cherry cordial hershey kisses
Lunch- Brat on bun---that was at like 3 so I haven't eaten anything else...oh wait, I had a bowl of ice cream. Maybe I should have some dinner before I go out dancing....

UPDATE: For dinner I had a small piece of pasty and a half bagel with strawberry jam. Then when I was out I had a Corona, a Strongbow Cider, and a White Chocolate Peppermintini

Day 5-Sheena

Breakfast- Didn't really have anything, just munched :( pretzels, cracker, piece of sausage, 2 dark chocolate/mint ghiradelli square
Lunch- 2 pieces fish fry, french fries, a mint, root beer
Snacks- 2 grasshopper ice cream drinks
Dinner-Hot Dog and Diet Coke at the movies

Day 5 - Annika

I've forgotten to mention I have 2 cod liver oil tablets each day.

Today I was feeling a bit bad in the morning so I decided I can have my favorite breakfast at work and that is the pumpkin seed roll. It's really good. Probably full of calories so I've been trying to avoid it.

The lunch options today are far too good. 3 options and they are all good. But I chose Karelian stew. Something very delicious but also something I usually get only at Christmas. And the dessert was yummy. apple-oat thingy with whipped cream.

This evening I'm going to have some Thai food and cider.

NOTE: I just love Thai food. It is really really good. I just wish I'd known that before.
I had chicken with red curry coconut sauce. Then we had thai wine spritzers. Also very good

I had ciders, a cosmopolitan, 2 daiquiris, 2 salmari shots. Stayed up until 5.30 am.. Never been out that late.

Dinner- 1 chicken breast w. bbq sauce, piece of chocolate cake
Snacks- couple pretzels, piece of chocolate cake, little cookie

Day 4 - Annika

Started the day with a sandwich and  a mandarin at work.
The lunch options are not too good today. Will have to see what I decide. -- I chose Pasta Carbonara for it looked quite alright. I only took a very small portion but I managed to ruin my salad with this horrible fat free Italian dressing so it was more carbonara for me. Also took a slice of white bread coz they had tomato-chili cream cheese. But the bread wasnt good so I didnt finish it.
A very tiny amount of mangoquark for dessert. It was yesterday's but I didnt have it then. As much as I love quarks, I'm tired of mango. It's not as good. Strawberry quark would be absolutely fantastic or rose hip. Too bad it's made of cream when it's at its best..

I FORGOT: I got some free crostinis from work, garlic-parsley and olive. So good and so unhealthy. I tried not to eat too many but I might have failed.

For dinner I had mashed potato-ground beef mix. I dont know what it's called in english but for us it's jauhelihaperunasoselaatikko. I had some carrot and lots of pineapple with it.

about an hour later I did 38 minutes workout and then I made strawberry quark. I couldnt resist.

Tomorrow evening is going to be girl's night out. We start with Thai food. Continue with cider and dancing.

Maybe on Saturday I dare to weigh myself. I'll scream if nothing has happened(no, i won't really).

Day 3 - Annika

Let's see..
for Breakfast I had a bread roll again. I was starving just before lunch.
Lunch was chicken soup with the side salad and 2 glasses of milk. It was really good soup.. Didn't feel too bad for not having the pizza.
At home I had another bread roll. Then exercised and hour. Warmed up last nights soup for dinner. Then I had lots and lots of milk. And the rest of my marshmallows. I saved the last one for hot cocoa and it was too hot. I burned my tongue.

Day 3-Sheena

Not doing too well today, though I only woke up once last night, so I'm getting better healthwise!

Breakfast: 2 pieces of double chocolate loaf :(, apple
Lunch: 2 pieces hawaiian thin crust pizza, 1 piece bbq chicken thin crust pizza, 1 breadstick, 1 thin crisp triscuit I was full after 2 pieces of pizza, but then had another. I need to stop doing that and not letting myself keep eating when I know I don't need anymore!
Dinner: Grilled ham and cheese on whole wheat bread and tomato soup with a glass of skim milk

Day 2-Sheena

I'm still sick. I definitely can't wait to start sleeping again so I can go to the gym! I miss it so much. Hopefully I'll be able to start back on Thursday....though I might be better just taking the rest of the week off. We'll see....

Eating today I've had:
Breakfast: 1/2 bagel w. peanut butter
Snack: 1 small piece dried mango, 1 lightly salted rice cake, lady grey tea (us), 1mini butterfinger
Lunch: ~1/2 c. whole wheat angel hair pasta with tomato sauce and artichokes, 1/2 c. romaine lettuce with tomato wedges and 1 tsp ranch dressing, 2 baby dill pickles, 1 laffy taffy. I just turned down a chocolate chip cookie, hope I can stay strong.
Dinner:
I don't have anything in mind for dinner yet, I'll update later. I am staying in one last night tonight, not going to the promos (since I don't really have a voice that is fit to record for the radio!) I also plan on being productive and doing laundry and finishing my grad school application that is due on Feb 1st.

Bad me...came home and munched on some plain sunchips and had a blueberry muffin. I will be making some venison for dinner, haven't decided what to have on the side yet. Will update later :) UPDATE: Had venison steak and pineapple for dinner. Very well-balanced....

Tomorrow will be a bad day at work as well....as it's free food day. I will try and limit myself. I just hope she doesn't bring taco dip, that's my downfall! Ok, glass of wine, reading and laundry! Goodnight :)

Day 2 - Annika

First of all I have to confess that my plan for last night's eating didnt go as planned. I had another bread roll and a tortilla. It was just a wheat tortilla with a lettuce leaf and some ground beef and chili ketchup. Not too bad.

But today:
I had one of those bread rolls for breakfast. I bought a bag of them yesterday coz they were soooo cheap. For lunch it was caesar salad with 2 glasses of milk. It wasnt a regular caesar, it didnt have that white sauce/mayo whatever. just lettuce, cucumber, tomato, chicken and parmesan. Added some pineapple and what I think was lenses.

Then unfortunately I was given the task of making candy bags.. I cannot do that without having some.. But I managed to eat about if not less than third of what I usually eat. Progress. Maybe one day I can stay away from the candy.

then a bread roll with pickles and lettuce. Then some soup. One marshmallow. UPDATE: also had a small bowl of weight watchers full bran cereal..

Exercise part's been a bit slow today. I only did some streching. Didnt dare use my bike coz we've been expecting company all evening. Though he's not here yet.

Tomorrow I'm going to avoid pizza day and have chicken soup instead. Then I promise to exercise more.

My running shoes were a bit too big so I'm sending them back. I did order smaller ones right away and they should be arriving on Friday.

Karen's Steps!

So, I don't know if I'm going to write down every single thing I eat every day, but I thought I'd give a rundown of what my lifestyle is currently like as far as diet and exercise.

3-4 times a week, I get up extra early (well, betwee 5:15 and 5:45 now since I work later) and go to the gym with my friend/neighbor/coworker, Rebecca. During "busy season" at work, I get up at 4:45am. We switch off on what we do at the gym. Usually, it rotates between just cardio workouts and cardio/weights workouts.

I honestly didn't think I could manage the early morning routine, but the hardest part truly is just getting my butt out of bed. It really helps to have a buddy to work out with because we both feel like we don't want to let the other down. We go for about an hour, give or take, go home and then get ready for work.

This routine has been working fairly well for me, I would say...I used to work out after work, but often lacked the motivation for it. Now I can get it over with and have more energy for work!

As for food, I've been trying to be healthier. I usually succeed for breakfast and lunch, but seem to have a problem with dinner. Probably because I don't have a ton of food in the apartment, and don't feel like running to the grocery store. My live-in boyfriend, Tony, doesn't usually have a full meal for dinner, so oftentimes when I want to cook, it's just me that's going to eat it, which is kind of discouraging for me. When I cook, I like to share it! I also am pretty busy, so I don't always have the time for a full-out meal. Suggestions on this matter are welcome!

I've been making sure to get a lot of vitamins throughout the day...I take them, and I drink things with them in it. I have antioxidant berry juice every day and an energy drink - which sounds really bad, but it doesn't have any carbs or sugar...has 8 calories and has a plethora of B vitamins. After working out, I usually drink a protein shake as well.

Oh, one other little tidbit...I read in a women's health magazine that people who eat yogurt every day are more likely to lose bellyfat than those who don't (of course, in addition to exercise and diet). I feel like I've heard this on a yogurt commercial...but reading it in a health magazine kind of verified it. I try to have one a day, but it all depends on my stock at home!

I'm pretty proud of myself about cutting diet soda out of my eating habits. I used to have at least one can/bottle a day, but haven't had any in a week and a half. Score!

There are also a couple supplements I'm going to try out. I'll make sure to update on that!

Day 1-Sheena

Food:
Snacks- 1 16.9oz gatorade, cough drops, milky way midnight bite-size candy bar (bad me!)
Breakfast- 1 plain eggo waffle, mango green tea (unsweetened)
Lunch- ~1/2 c. whole wheat angel hair pasta with tomato sauce and artichokes, 1/2 c. romaine lettuce with tomato wedges and 1 tsp ranch dressing, 1 apple
Dinner-Will be bad since I'm going out for Restaurant Week to Quivey's Grove: UPDATE, yes dinner was bad:
Duck Strudel (duck & dried cherries in phyllo with port wine sauce) though in my defense it was TEENY (bite of biz's potato, pickle and cheese)
Trout stuffed with smoked trout stuffing on spinach with carrot ribbons
Turtle Pie (caramel and pecans topped with a chocolate mousse)
Small Gingerbread Steamer...got 2% milk, next time I need to ask for skim :(

Day 1 - Annika

Foods:
Breakfast - cucumber, lettuce, tomato, cheese and ham on rye. Lots of fibers in that. Shame it didn't taste any good today so I didnt finish it.
Lunch - lettuce, cucumber, carrot, tuna salad and very little kinkkukiusaus(ham..teasing. well i dont know what it could be in English..) and fruit cocktail. 2 glasses of milk. (I only drink absolutely fat free milk.)
At home I had a bread roll and later I'm having some milk. Might mix it with some 0,2% quark and blueberries or pineapple. (My bf's having tacos and I'm just going to sit and watch)

Just finished 39 minutes on my exercise bike with Heroes. Watching a show makes it more interesting and easier to forget what I'm doing.

I was so lazy I took the bus from the grocery store and it's only about half a mile. if that much.
2 years ago I was able to lose about 20 pounds. I was so happy about that. Then I got a job. It all came back. I had a gym membership for a year but that didn't help. So this is a new try. I got an exercise bike for Christmas, that's going to be my exercise. At least for now. I ordered running shoes and if they fit and are fine I might just try to start running a bit.
I came up with this milk-diet which I base on these facts: They say that calcium helps with weight control. Milk fills the stomach quite well and a recend Californian study shows that girls who get enough vitamin D are thinner than those who don't. So I'm going to focus on having nothing but milk after work or after 5pm. If I want to eat I'll have pineapple, berries or something like that. I'm trying to avoid pasta, potatoes and rice. I have lunch and breakfast at work. I take all the extra butter off my brekkie sandwich and fill at least 2/3 of my plate with salads. Oh and I've made a list of the desserts I can eat. Only the absolute best can stay.
I havent been starving at all with this, although I've not been able to follow it everyday for various reasons.

2 years ago I did it with Weight Watchers points but I dont have the energy to start counting everything I eat so I just try to eat healthier stuff.

I hope doing this together will make it more efficient. And keep my motivation up.

Go us!

First Post

So I recently went on a roadtrip and ate too much junk food along the way, and then came home and got sick, so it has been 19 days since I have gone to the gym :( I am definitely feeling the effects of that. So my game plan is to be careful about what I eat, I have no diet to stick to, I just want to eat healthier. Less candy, fried foods and soda. More fruits, veggies, whole grains, water, and exercise! I have no plans to weigh myself. I don't want that to be my focus. Though I really would like to lose at least 30 pounds by the time I head back to grad school, it'd be nice to be a 'new Sheena' to start a new stage in my life. Wish me luck! On this blog, I'm going to try and post food journals of what I eat (boring!) and what classes I go to at the gym and how I am progressing in them. My focus though will just be a healthier me. I'll probably post good recipes and other things I may find also. Let me know what you think!
