new year, new you!

yeah, it's cliche to have a new year's resolution of getting into better shape....but guess what? it's one of my many resolutions!

rebecca just joined hybrid fitness, which is right across the street from work. it has regular gym stuff, plus extra things like classes (including zumba!), a "fit fresh" cuisine (which is 10% off w/ my insurance), and it's run by personal trainers. it's only $5 more a month than my current gym, if you choose to sign up for unlimited classes. AND you get two free sessions with a personal trainer. sounds like a good deal to me!

i'm just going to wait a month or two, so i don't end up double paying at the gyms. i think it would be a good supplement to my regular gym stuff if we move (the place we looked at has the best cardio and weight room we've ever seen at an apartment complex...plus a pool and hot tub!). and i'm supposed to get my wii fit in the mail soon, so hopefully all of that will help.

i told tony i'm going to try to eat healthier. i've been pretty good the last few days, but when he buys spotted cow, i'll drink it. (not like to get drunk or anything, but i'll have one at night if i feel like it). i feel like beer, especially regular beer is kind of undoing my healthly eating. i told him not to buy it any more! (i usually don't go out and buy it anyway).

here's my main goal: drop to 130lbs by my birthday. that gives me 6 months to lose 20 pounds. i've never lost that much weight in my life....but i think i was around that size when i was in high school. right now, it's a daunting number, but i'm putting that goal out there so that i can hold myself to it!

i guess my main challenge is that i've been staying around the same weight since i started working out consistently about 2 years ago. i'm wondering if it's because of the muscle gain...which isn't bad. honestly, i dont' really care how much i weigh, as long as i feel good and look toned. so maybe setting a number for weight loss isn't the best idea. but it's at least a goal!

do you guys have any health goals for 2010?

Go Karen, go! :)

That sounds like a lot of exercising...and alot of fun! Also remember, that once it gets warm out again, you can go for walks/runs outside. Maybe not every day, but would be a nice change to your normaal routine.

I do have goals for 2010, thanks for asking! I have been using my Wii Fit for at least 30 minutes/day. I've only had it for a week, but so far so good. Also, I'm trying to get back into working out at Curves. My goal is twice a week, then up it to three times/week. I went two times this week, so far so good.

My short term goal as far as weight loss is to fit into some (if not all) of my dress clothes for my conference in two weeks. That may be stretching it a little bit. My long term goal to lose 20 lbs. In recent years I've been 20 lbs lighter, and it would be nice to be that weight again. Like Karen, it's not about the numbers, but rather for me to fit into clothes. I have so many clothes, that buying new would be wasteful, since I have plenty.

Happy New Year, and here's to 2010!!! :)

What an inspiration! I lost about 20 pounds four years ago. I did WW online and increase my exercise significantly (from nothing to walking and jogging a total of 90 minutes a day or so). It was the first time I'd ever really tried to lose weight with a program and a plan and it was very enlightening. I always thought I was "cutting back" and "exercising more" but when I had to quantify it and write it down, I could quickly see the difference. I agree with Lisa--being outside made a lot of difference for me. I walked in the neighborhood near the office on lunch for 45 minutes of my hour lunch and ate a smaller, healthy lunch, and then made sure to walk or jog or do a workout video when I got home. Sadly, after 3 years of being conscientious, I started slowly going back to my old habits and put it back on. But I'm hoping that with a good solid plan, I can take it back off this spring and focus on being healthier.

Good luck with your plan!

thanks for the comment, linda!

i haven't tried weight watchers....i don't like restricting my diet too much (although, maybe that's part of my problem, huh?). it'd be cool to get pointers about it, though. exercising outside definitely relieves stress for me. can't wait until it's warm out!
